How to Make Your own Wedding Party Invitations

Wedding stationary can be very expensive and a good way to cut down on the overall costs of your wedding party while at the same time ensuring it is unique to you is to make your own wedding invitations. Don’t think you need to be particularly crafty to do this – there are lots of ideas and instructions online and once you’ve made a few practice cards, you’ll be producing them like a pro.

Start by looking around at commercial wedding invitations and handmade stationery for sale to get some ideas and inspiration and get more of an idea of what you like. It’s best to try and keep things simple – the simplest designs are often the most effective and also easier to make. You don’t need to think up a complicated extravagant design for an attractive wedding invitation.

You’ll probably want to tie in your wedding party decorations to your overall theme, so think of a color scheme or other theme and use this as the basis for the design of your invitations. You can then start shopping for paper, card and other materials that match these colors or go with the overall scheme. There are lots of theme ideas for wedding parties so look through some magazines or websites to get inspiration.

Remember that as you’re making your own invitations, they can be completely personal to you – you might want to include a photo of you and your partner either on the design of the invitation or inside the card or any other items that will make the design more unique to you.

The invitations can be hand-written but unless you have ultra neat hand writing and only have a small guest list, you’ll probably find it easier to print them from a computer. Software like word can easily insert different names into a piece of text which you can then print out yourself or have printed commercially onto a plain piece of card or paper. This can then be glued to the invitation for a professional look to your handmade design.
