Protecting Your Glass Wedding Centerpieces

Glass is a beautiful medium, but it is also one of the most fragile.  Glass wedding centerpieces can be the highlight of your wedding decorations, but your guests have no idea how much trouble and danger they took just to get to your tables.  If you are worried about shattering your centerpieces and want some ways to keep them safe, here are some helpful tips.

If you are having them shipped to you, ask for insurance. That way, the manufacturer will have to package the centerpieces thoroughly.

Buy large amounts of bubble wrap from your local moving store. Whenever you need to transport the centerpieces, do not just set them in the back of a truck and hope they stay there.  Wrap them thoroughly with at least two layers of bubble wrap — this is the standard for shipping any potentially fragile item.

Employ several people when moving each piece. Instead of just carefully carrying a glass centerpiece around by yourself, have someone else help you.  You may even want to bring in a third person to hold a large plastic container over any small, fragile bits on the top, just in case you bump into a wall or door.  That way, the container will take the brunt of the blow and you will not have a missing bird’s beak without realizing it.

Attach the piece to the table it sits on, compensating for top heaviness. Many glass wedding centerpieces are at least marginally top heavy, and while they will not just tip over if left alone, they could be knocked over with some coaxing, perhaps from an overly enthusiastic nephew or niece.  If this is the case for you, buy some double sided foam tape and evenly stick some to the bottom of the piece, then attach it to the table.  This is no guarantee of safety, but it can certainly help.
